STORYTELLERS - “We Were in Love”

Personally, my favorite songs to listen to and write are songs like this one. I think it’s because whenever I’m going through something rough, the first thing I turn to is music - whether it be listening to songs or writing them. With that said, this is by far my favorite song on the Feels Like Summer EP.

Lately I’ve been single for a awhile, which I’m totally okay with - it’s nearly impossible to try to start a relationship when you’re gone so often. But one day I was reminiscing through picture frames, aka Instagram (non-creeper status i swear) and saw a particular ex girlfriend of mine with another man. It got me thinking, had I done things differently when we were going out, would things be different now? Maybe I was too dumb or too young to see it then but I feel like we had something good. But with every past relationship, I think you learn something new or find something in yourself to work on a little more. So in a way, if breakups never hurt as bad as some do, we may never learn from them, causing us to never grow into the people we are today. I’m a firm believer that everything happens for a reason. If it was really meant to be, you’ll run into that person again. But right now, you just have to live your life.

So in a nutshell, this song is about the one that got away.

<4 Stephen

Lyrics:

We were in love
But we were too young
Two kids in the sun
And you were the one..

Yeah you had
My heart
In your hands
From the start.
But you ran
And I stayed.
All our plans
Got away.

Does it even cross your mind to call me up
When you feel down?
If you only knew what I was thinking about
then you’d know by now

That we were in love
But we were too young
Two kids in the sun
And you were the one.
If I could go back I would make you believe
That you still belong not with him but with me.
I’ve had enough
Pretending we’re done,
Cause we were in love.

And I hope
In your heart
That you still feel the same way.
But we’re so
Far apart
That there’s so much more to say.

Does it even cross your mind to call me up
When you feel down?
If you only knew what I was thinking about
then you’d know by now

That we were in love
But we were too young
Two kids in the sun
And you were the one.
If I could go back I would make you believe
That you still belong not with him but with me.
I’ve had enough
Pretending we’re done,
Cause we were in love.

All those nights that we had everything
When did that change?
We told ourselves that we would stay the same,
When did that change?!

We were in love
But we were too young
Two kids in the sun
And you were the one.
If I could go back I would make you believe
That you still belong not with him but with me.
I’ve had enough
Pretending we’re done,
Cause we were in love.

We were in love.

STORYTELLERS - “Tonight’s the Night”

This song was the second song written for the EP. It started in New Jersey with our friends Connor and Toby from Before You Exit. We were playing the guitar riff for an hour and just mumbling melodies back and forth until we finally found what we liked. The lyrics are based upon being on the road all the time but being able to feel at home still due to who your company is - whether it be a girl, guy, friends, whoever. Being out on the road for your ‘job’ makes it really easy to get homesick, but I’ve made some pretty amazing friends over the past six months that I am completely myself with. This song is a tribute to everyone I’ve met on the road. Without you, I don’t know how I would survive mentally being gone all the time. So thank you for allowing me and the rest of Fourth &Coast to do what we do.

<4 Stephen

Lyrics:

I got a feeling that tonight’s the night
We’re gonna make it our own.
You’ve got that something and it caught my eye,
Now I just can’t leave it alone.

And I wanna say,
I like it when you’re riding shotgun in my brand new car
When you got your hair undone and still look like a movie star
You got me feeling h-h-hot
Like its summer all the time.

We gotta go
Take over every road.
We’ll do it on our own,
Ill be rock and you be roll
Girl you make me feel like im at home.

Ho-o-o-ome, oh oo oh-oh-oh-oh.
Girl you make me feel at home.

I wanna be one of your favorite things
I can be your risk of the night.
You’ll put my shirt on and proceed to sing
"We’ll never feel more alive."

And I wanna say,
I like the way you dance around right on the boulevard.
When you play our favorite song and rock out on your air guitar.
You got me feeling h-h-hot
Like its summer all the time.

We gotta go
Take over every road.
We’ll do it on our own,
Ill be rock and you be roll
Girl you make me feel like im at home.

Ho-o-o-ome, oh oo oh-oh-oh-oh.
Girl you make me feel at home.

I got a feeling that tonight’s the night
We’re gonna make it our own
You’ve got that something and it caught my eye
And I just can’t leave it now
Cause girl you make me feel at home.

So listen, i know I tend to over think things, day dream a little too much,
But right now, you’re the only one I wanna be with.
And you probably think I’m too crazy, too forward, maybe a little dumb but hey, I think i’m in love.
What’s wrong with having a little fun?

We gotta go
Take over every road.
We’ll do it on our own,
Ill be rock and you be roll
Girl you make me feel like im at home.

Ho-o-o-ome, oh oo oh-oh-oh-oh.
Girl you make me feel at home.

STORYTELLERS Part 2 - “Hopeless Romantic”

So this is the second Storytellers and its on one of our older songs “Hopeless Romantic”! If you ever have had a house party with us you’ve probably heard part of this story before. We had scheduled studio time in November to record a single and I had been writing very country style songs because all I listened to was “Red” by the one and only T-Swizzle. The night before we had to leave, I came up with this line “we’ll never feel more alive.” I was talking to this girl that I had a major crush on but never had the courage to tell her how I feel, but she made me feel alive. That night was spent thinking of all the possibilities that could happen if I just let her know. I ended up with pretty much all the lyrics to this song - excluding the “ohs”.

So basically, this song is about love. It’s about finally finding that someone that makes you feel like you’re on top of the world and never letting go. Personally, and I hope there are more people out there like me, I’m still searching for that someone. I guess you could call me a hopeless romantic. But I know that there is still hope and that it will take a little bit of fate and a whole lot of courage to finally meet that someone. I just can’t wait until this song happens to me.

And if you’ve found that someone, I’m so incredibly happy for you. For those who haven’t - you’re not alone! Our time will come :)

<4 Stephen

Lyrics:

Im reminiscing through picture frames,
phone calls, and messages i have
saved.
She’s on my mind almost everyday
so I call her to let her know.

I said “I think we’re falling in love,
I’m on my way to pick you up
I just can’t get enough.”

And she said
"I’ve waited all my life
for your love. come take me away tonight.
We won’t drive, cause honey we will fly
And we’ll never feel more alive.”
So we don’t look down or close our eyes
Like a rocketship through the blue night sky
We don’t drive, cause somehow we can fly.
And we’ll never feel more alive.

I see her smile and I go insane
She puts sorority girls to shame
I love the way that she says my name
We’re up all night, I’m not coming home.

I said,
"I think we’re falling in love,
You are my favorite pick-me-up
I just can’t get enough.”

And she said
"I’ve waited all my life
For your love. come take me away tonight.
We won’t drive, cause honey we will fly.
And we’ll never feel more alive.”
So we don’t look down or close are eyes
Like a rocketship through the blue night sky
We don’t drive, cause somehow we can fly.
And we’ll never feel more alive.

Oh oh, oh oh
Oh oh, oh oh
Oh oh, oh oh
Oh oh, oh oh
We’ll never feel more alive.

And I said,
I’ve waited all my life
for your love to steal my heart tonight.
Was a hopeless romantic but now you have changed this.
Ill never feel more alive.
So we don’t look down or close are eyes
Like a midnight magic carpet ride
We won’t drive cause somehow we can fly and
We’ll never feel more alive.

STORYTELLERS Part 1 - “Ain’t Got a Care in the World”

Hey. Stephen here. So “Ain’t Got a Care in the World” was one of the first songs of the EP that was written. We were in a basement for four days in Denver, CO and we were finally reunited with Jacob for the first time in a long time. Everyone was super stoked we were all together again and everything felt carefree… And a day later, after secluding myself in the stairwell for hours, the song was created!

It’s mainly about forgetting about anything that’s bringing you down currently and just living in the moment. Whatever you’re going through, there will always be those core people in your life that can make you feel better just by their presence - whether it be your crush, friends, family, whoever. These people can make you feel alive. The song is about the good times.

Lyrics:

I got a lot on my mind
That ill throw away tonight
Now that I’m with you.
We’re gonna have a good time
Everything feels right.
Summer just in bloom.

Toss everything in the car,
Every single joke of ours
Makes a memory.
We got everything that we need
In the back of our jeep,
Only you and me.

Hey now,
We can do it all now,
I can be your boy
If you want me to.
We’re now
Waiting for the countdown.
Here it goes: three, two, one.

We’re all like
Hey oh ey oh ey oh oh
We ain’t got a care in the world
Hey oh ey oh ey oh oh
We just don’t care. It could be
You and me and our friends
Setting in the sun that never sets.
We’re all like
Hey oh ey oh ey oh oh
Ain’t got a care in the world.

We’ll go everywhere we don’t know,
Every beach along the coast.
Yeah, it’s worth the burn.
Our songs never seem to get old
So we crank the radio,
Singing every word.

Hey now,
What you wanna do now,
Where you wanna go baby
Make a move.
We’re now
Waiting for a countdown
Here it goes: three, two, one.

We’re all like
Hey oh ey oh ey oh oh
We ain’t got a care in the world
Hey oh ey oh ey oh oh
We just don’t care. It could be
You and me and our friends
Setting in the sun that never sets.
We’re all like
Hey oh ey oh ey oh oh
Ain’t got a care in the world

We don’t got a care,
We ain’t got a care,
We don’t got a care,
We ain’t got a care in the world.

We’re all like
Hey oh ey oh ey oh oh
We ain’t got a care in the world
Hey oh ey oh ey oh oh
We just don’t care. It could be
You and me and our friends
Setting in the sun that never sets.
We’re all like
Hey oh ey oh ey oh oh
Ain’t got a care in the world.

From my perspective, what makes Fourth & Coast unique?

We do, and by we I mean the band and all of you.
I don’t think Fourth & Coast would be the same without Jacob announcing to every stranger we encounter that the weather we’re having is very nice. And if Stephen didn’t write the songs he does and ask a million ridiculous questions then it just wouldn’t feel right. If Justin didn’t slam the brakes just so Stephen can fly off his seat then I don’t know how I would be able to stay entertained on the long van rides. You guys make a huge impact too. Getting all sentimental, if it wasn’t for you guys listening to our music we wouldn’t even be here, and more so I wouldn’t even want to be here. But that’s not all you guys do let’s be real. I laugh out loud probably way more than I should everyday because one of you replies to one of my tweets with such an unexpected answer that I spend too much time wondering how creative of a person you must to come up that something, and why couldn’t I think of that. And sometimes I steal them and post them shush :).
We’re about to get back on the road for the rest of summer. And this will be our first time out since our new EP “Feels Like Summer” was released. I’m really excited because, well I honestly don’t know why, but I am so I don’t question it! We’re living the perfect life because we get to go around doing what makes us happy, and if we’re lucky then we get to make other people happy too. I don’t care how selfish of a person you are, if you make someone else happy you know it feels good. Also we’re currently in the middle of trying to visit every Wal-Mart, Starbucks and Target in the country, along with the fact that I’m determined to try one super bomb meal from every city, so if you have suggestions for your city let me know!
We’ve been at home for the last month, so between Instagram, Tumblr, Twitter and Facebook we’ve been slacking a bit, but that’s gonna change starting now and I think we’re going to start posting on here a lot more, so if you don’t follow us but you somehow enjoy hearing me ramble and create run-on sentences then this is probably and also most certainly the perfect time for you to follow us :).
We’re also going to try to talk to you guys a lot more like we used to. I miss talking to you guys so I’m so ready to have long conversations about how breakfast food just isn’t that great but that Dunkin Donuts is a grand exception.
<4
Also! If you haven’t picked up our new EP yet, you can do so here :). It would really help us out a lot!
We’re trying our best to share our music with so many of you, but if you guys can help spread the word it would mean so much. Let’s make 2013 a big year, together :).

Dec 31, 2012 / 6 notes

Here’s to 2013.

If anyone is interested enough to listen to me type my current thoughts right now, you’re awesome.

I’d like to start by saying that we’ve been on the road for almost 11 hours already, and still have 6 more to go. The guys have told me to write about our day but to tell the truth, nothing exciting really happens when you spend the whole day sitting in a cramped van.

As I sit in the back row, ive been thinking about the past year and how lucky I have been. A year ago I was in a totally different position. Our band had no drummer at the time, I was taking random classes at community college, had a Mon-Fri job and didn’t know exactly what I wanted to do with my life. Of course I wanted to pursue music, but I just didn’t know how I was going to be able to do so.

Now, I am doing what I love with my best friends and traveling the country. I quit my job and decided to take a break from school. To a lot of people this isn’t the most traditional route, and even I know there’s no sure way of knowing if I will be okay. But sometimes what you want doesn’t come so easy. There will be people along the way telling you that you can’t do it or you’re not good enough. You know what I think about those people? I think they’re scared. If you want something in life, you need to work for it and put everything you’ve got into achieving your goal. Music has always been my way of understanding this world, and if I have a shot of making it the center of my life I am for sure going to try. So here I am, driving in the middle of the US, going to share our music with thousands of people. Since last year, Fourth & Coast has released its first EP titled “Heavy Hearts”, grown an incredible, awesome, and loving fan base, and been given the opportunity to tour the country alongside one of our best friends Daniel Sumstine from Hello Highway. I can’t even begin to explain how happy I am. Even if I had a stable life going to college and working, I feel more at home chasing this dream than I ever have before.

For those of you who don’t know, Daniel has asked us to be his backing band on the Resolution tour. This means that we will be helping him play the shows every night on the tour. We could not be thankful enough to be given this opportunity by him, we love him to death.

What does this mean for Fourth & Coast you might ask? This means that we are able to be on the ENTIRE Resolution tour, therefore we can meet hundreds of people every night and have the chance of sharing our own music with them. How freaking cool is that?

So that’s basically my story for tonight, and as it gets closer to the new year I just want to say thank you to everyone who has been in my life so far. My mom, dad, and sister who have been supporting me since day one, even if it doesn’t mean school. James, Jacob, and Justin for being some of my best friends and for everything we’ve been through together. All my friends who are all in different places now pursuing what they love and what they want. To everyone who has ever supported this band for being the reason why we are able to do what we love. And you for humoring me and reading this.

PS. Jacob almost got arrested for taking a picture of a crime scene in Tulsa, Oklahoma. But he’s fine.

Cheers and happy new year!
Stephen
